Our purpose:
To provide support when called upon by the Mecosta County Sheriff’s office.
That support can include, but is not limited to, the following,
- Tornado disasters, floods, and ice storms
- Drowning incidents (divers and crowd control)
- Major traffic accidents where traffic control will be needed (dependent on the severity of the accident)
- Missing persons
- Assist in the safety of fairs, parades, beer tents, marathon races, school requests, festivals, and other community events.
- Other duties as requested by the Sheriff or department command officers.
What are some requirements of being a member?
- As a member, you must maintain an attendance record of 75% all planned events of the posse throughout the year.
- You are not, at any time, to identify yourself as a peace officer or police officer.
- Members may not be absent from 3 consecutive meetings or 4 throughout the year unless approved.
- Members are responsible for maintaining a professional appearance and ensuring the safe use of their uniform and/or gear.
- Uniforms should only be worn when specified by Sheriff, Captain or designated officer in command.
- All posse members must abide by all Sheriff's department policies and procedures, schooling, training, dress codes and weapons training that to the posse, that are covered in the by-laws.
- Must submit to a chemical test upon demand of Sheriff, Under Sherrif, Posse Captain or Lieutenant.

The regular posse business meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00pm at the Mecosta County Sheriff Office.
